About

Hi Everyone! Welcome to THE NOMAD KITCHEN!

My name is Thomas. I’m 24 and I’m currently living Essex and working in London.

I am a vegan who eats a whole food plant based diet (WFPB) with a very simple food philosophy: use the freshest, in season ingredients and simple techniques to create amazing food’. I have been a vegan for a year and a half and I have loved the journey so far and I cannot wait for my lifestyle to keep evolving!

Growing up I was a big ‘meat eater’, literally eating animals from nose to tail, however, having watched and researched into how animals are treated for animal agriculture, not knowing what will be in the meat or where it has come from and the way that an animal based diet affects your health I decided to stop eating meat and pursue a plant based diet. I have never felt healthier and I will never go back to eating meat. When I first started a plant based diet it was purely because I disagreed with the way that animals are being treated for humanity to unnecessarily exploit and eat the animals. As my knowledge has improved I have started to understand that leading a plant based lifestyle goes way beyond the treatment of animals. A plant based diet is also so good for your health that it can help cure ailments but more importantly prevent illness and disease that have directly correlated to a heavy animal based diet. Living your life this way will also lead to a much healthier planet as animal agriculture is not sustainable. To keep up with demand for meat, forests are being destroyed as well as the huge amounts of water and food that is needed to feed the animals which alternatively could be used to help with poverty stricken areas. I haven’t found one negative in living a plant based lifestyle and I believe that this way of living is the future.

There are some amazing documentaries that were very ‘eye opening’ for me and I am sure they will be for others. Examples of these are Food, Inc., which gives an unflattering insight into America’s corporate controlled food industry and Forks Over Knives which examines the profound claim that most, if not all, of the degenerative diseases that afflict us can be controlled, or even reversed, by rejecting our present menu of animal-based and processed foods. I hear a lot of people saying that they couldn’t live without meat or that they do not know where to start, but it is actually very easy and most importantly, enjoyable! If you do not follow this lifestyle I would definitely recommend having at least 3-4 days a week eating just whole food plant based meals to get you started. This will be a good indicator into just how good you can feel on a plant based diet! You never know, you could start a journey like I have! A good way to get your foot in the door to a plant based lifestyle is to join in with Meat Free Mondays (#MeatFreeMondays).

I believe that sourcing your ingredients from local farms is extremely important. Generally speaking, the quality of produce grown/bought locally tastes so much better as farmers are growing the produce that is in season which makes all the difference in the taste of your cooking! Buying farmers produce enables them to continue to grow the most amazing vegetables throughout the year and supply the local community. It is so important to know where all of your produce comes from and how they have been grown!

I have always been a very sporty person and I am very interested to see what effects a plant based diet will have on my performance. I have also become very interested in the nutritional side to food. As I learn more I will gradually implement nutritional information into my blog posts and provide information on how I feel exercising on a plant based diet.

On this blog I will be posting all of my favourite whole food plant based recipes as well as updates on my vegan journey. I really do hope you enjoy the content on this blog.
